Opportunities
I have always been cautious about where I take my dog in general. I am rather over protective about many things. One of the big things I have always been careful about is his veterinary care. I for one am not a huge fan of vaccinations. Don’t get me wrong, I find them to be important and they have a major purpose. I just feel that vaccines stay active in a dogs blood stream for a lot longer than most of us are aware of and the need for every check up is a little bit over kill. I keep my dog up to date on his shots, but if there is a vaccine that I don’t feel he needs immediately I will wait. I also don’t like for him to get all of his vaccines done at one time. I think it is too taxing on his system. I like to spread out his treatment, that way he also has another set of eyes and hands on him at regular intervals to check him over. I don’t miss much, but it is nice to be reassured regularly that he looks good. I also don’t like to take Renegade anywhere that I can not always see him, and hold him while he is being treated. He is a good boy, but he does get nervous when he is not around me. Not so much for his own well being, but for mine. It is his job to protect me. If he can’t see me, how can he take care of me? I also want to know the people working on my dog. I want to know their experience and who they are. I want to know how they treat their own pets and the type of care the use. These are all important to me in the treatment and care of my boy. I have often taken him places that I tend to step on toes to get the type of care that I am seeking. Its against their policies or recommendations to do what they are doing to treat my pet the way I feel he needs to be cared for. I know that I am a handful to deal with as a customer. I will however take the time to find a place I feel comfortable with in every way to treat my pet.
I have been looking for a new job recently. I decided to apply at one of the only places I have felt give the right type of care to my dog. Having always had such a hands on approach, and also working close to this particular hospital professionally as a groomer, they staff there knows me pretty well. I had the opportunity to observe their practice today and see some of the changes they have made and really see how they run. I am ever so grateful to have had this opportunity today. I know that many facilities would not feel comfortable having a regular customer nose around their practice, especially for liability reasons, but if you have the opportunity, I greatly encourage you to at least ask to see the facilities and know where your parts are being cared for and by whom.
